Opening old laptop with Vista without password.

I have an old HP Pavilion laptop that I would like to use to show photos on my TV. The OS is Windows Vista (told you it was old). I have forgotten the password to open the thing up. Is there a way around the password? I don't have a password "reset disc" and the hint I left for myself is quite mysterious to me, now. Thanks for whatever help comes.
