OneDrive changed file names on it s own

I have long used a '+' sign to float directories to the top of the alphabetical list. Last night all of my +'s were converted to 1's. This also caused a number of syncing issues where many files were deleted that I had to restore. Just another scary day in the land of MS... Why the change? Where is the warning?
