one drive has destroyed my windows install

It appears to have zilched my dekstop folder and taken over my documents folder, leaving my bread and butter adobe apps in a total mess. ONe drive found an old one drive folder on my system and decided to re-link it. I have unliked one drive from the pc, I'm about to start patching together what I canThis really should be a class action lawsuit. How can it destroy the local desktop folder and replace it with one from an old system that is still online? Its just woeful. My question isnce i've sorted out your mess, microsoft, how can i use one drive in future without this happening again
