Old laptop takes forever to show desktop after logging in.

Hi, so I finally decided to turn on my old gaming laptop that I haven't used in like 2 - 3 years. When I first turned it on, it was very slow and there were countless updates in progress. When it finally got mostly up to date, I was able to search and so I set it aside to deal with the next day. When I open it the next day, all is going good, until I after I log in to my account.The problem was that it only showed a blackscreen and cursor for like 5 minutes until the desktop decides to showup.
