Hello all. I'm having an issue where I had an older version of the

compatibility pack installed on a machine with Office XP, and when I

would try to open a newer version docx or xlsx file, it would say

something like "This is a pre-release version, do you want to download

the new version now?" So I would click yes, download the latest

version, login as admin, uninstall old version, reboot, install new

version, and it still gives me the same message even though I

uninstalled the old version and installed the latest. How can I fix

this problem? Thanks.

The latest Office compatibility pack is the 2007 version - nothing newer.

There is one update to it: office2007-kb978380-fullfile-x86-glb.exe maybe

that's what you really need.

Here is the actual quote:

"This is a pre-release version of the compatibility pack and can open

pre-release office 2007 files only. Do you want to check for a newer

version of the compatibility pack?"

Thanks for the response, I tried your suggested update and I'm still

getting this message.

Uninstall the Compatibility pack via add/remove

Run disk clean up, reboot PC Install latest compatibility pack

See if that helps (PS I assume OfficeXP has been updated)
