simple fix...

I exported from IE6 and got the 'not a valid bookmark' when trying to import into IE7.

I openned my bookmark.html in notepad, and saved as bookmark2.html making sure to choose encoding:"ANSI" within the Save As menu.

That resulting file was then importable to IE7.

I found this technique at http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/e...hen-importing-ie8-bookmarks-favorites-to-ie7/

Not a Valid Bookmark File

Hi there,

Have upgraded to IE7 on a 2nd XP computer. I tried importing the bookmarks

from IE7 on the 1st XP computer by exporting the favorites and then

e-mailing them to myself. Problem is, I get the message saying the import

was successful, but it is then followed by the message in the subject line.

Therefore, not successful as nothing imports.

Any ideas on how to get around this? I also tried the same thing from IE6

on another system (Windows ME). Same problem.

Couldn't find anything in the Knowledge Base so hoping someone might have an

idea on how to solve this. By the way this is on XP Pro SP2 with all

updates applied.

Thanks so much!

Open the file with Notepad or WordPad. What are the first three lines?
