No thumbnails showing for some video files

Recently my computer has stopped showing thumbnails for some video files, including MOV and MP4. I've tried a couple of suggested things but nothing seems to be able to bring them back, it's quite frustrating. I wonder if anyone had any ideas please? Thank you so much(I also had an issue where they wouldn't open and I was getting a pop up saying 'Class not registered' which seems to be resolved now touch wood, but I am not sure if this is related)
