On January 14th , widows automatically put 3 update onto my HP probook 450 G4.

KB4535860

KB4596878

KB4598229.

When I started it on the 15th there was no sound (Connexant HSS - or could be ISSS, if memory serves)

In fact according to windows there were no sound devices at all.

I went through the driver updates from windows and from HP, but none of them would install.

According to windows my sound driver is now, "Intel High definition Audio", and no drivers have been installed.

I spent most of the day trying to fix but got nowhere and was resigned to it being a hardware issue, so decided to have a look at the bios. As I went down the option there were nice beeps from the speaker, so it definitely is not a hardware failure.

Since the only change between the 14th, when al l was well, and the 15th when sound stopped completely were those three updates, doe anyone know

a) Which one it is likely to be?

b) If there is a fix due any time soon?

c) How to get windows to stop seeing my sound driver as something it isn't so that I can install the HP ones?

USB still seems to be OK as far as Microphone and sound are concerned.

The only driver now installed, that I can't actually test is the HDMI output. HDMI to a display works fine.
