No PIN option, but pin is required??

So this morning my computer (Windows 11 Surface) was all working fine. After returning to it after a lunch break, it was on shut down - everything normal so far. After I would swipe up to use facial recognition, but it didn't work and said "your pin is required to sign in". Now I pressed on sign-in option which brings up some.boxes with icons. The only ones there were the password and the facial recognition. Knowing that the facial recognition didn't work, I tried a few passwords (a few failed attempts because I had never used passwords).
