No Bitlocker recovery key prompt or notification it was set up. Files now locked after updating Motherboard and CPU.

Hi all, I have just updated my motherboard and CPU on 2nd PC but on start up was asked for a Bitlocker recovery password. After a bit of research I now understand what it is but I am stunned as I never set this up, intended for it to be on or was prompted to write down a recovery password. I have logged into both my Microsoft accounts and found no recovery passwords attached to either. I am absolutely stunned that a security measure I have never been told about has now locked me out of my personal files without my knowledge. The best option I have been given now is to wipe my SSD of ALL MY FIL
