Recently I've updated Win 10 on my laptop to version 1909, and now I don't have sound, only a red cross icon in the system tray.
I'm struggling with this issue 4 days already.
Audio troubleshooter doesn't help.
It either writes that it cannot detect problem, or writes that it has applied some fixes and suggests to reboot, but the problem still persists.
I have tried dozens of advises to update sound drivers, rollback sound drivers, manually pick from the list of manufacturers...
Have tried disabling then enabling audio devices.
I've also checked that Windows audio services are running.
Have visited this page: [FIX] 'No Audio Output Device Is Installed' For Windows 10 and tried advises listed there.
Device Manager on my laptop doesn't have menu item Actions -> Install Legacy device.
I've also found a page, that suggests running pnputil /enum-drivers, then pnputil /delete-driver ... for some of them.
I have removed Realtek, Intel and NVidia drivers for sound card - those that have Sound in their descriptions.
However, it did not help too. After reboot, I've pressed "Check for updates", Windows has installed some drivers, having Intel and Realtek in their names, but the sound haven't appeared.
I've also tried installing drivers, suggested by the DriverTalent software. I tried it twice, it has suggested to install Realtek drivers, first time version 4.65, second time - 4.66. Still no sound.
Nothing helps.
For some reason I cannot roll back windows update. I also would like to avoid it, because I need new console.
My laptop manufacturer is Samsung.
Model is NP900X5T-S01
Windows 10 x64, enterprise edition.
According to the device manager it has Realtek High Definition Audio and Intel Display audio adapters.
I've visited Event viewer.
It contains the following warning message
Device INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0256&SUBSYS_144DC15E&REV_1000\4&75c3215&0&0001 was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match.
