after having to replace the motherboard and cpu and reinstall windows, I

seem to have lost the network icon in the systray. how do I get it back?

You can get it back by doing this:

Start, Connect to, Show all Connections,

Now Right-Click on your preferred connection,

Select Properties at the bottom of the list

Now in the General tab, there should be a check box at the bottom to "Show

Icon in notification area when connected"

Click Ok

You should now have the icon you want.

Follow the above procedure for all connections you are likely to use.

Are you posting from the same host to prove that you do have network

connectivity as evidenced by your post here?

In the Network applet in Control Panel, right-click on the connectoid,

select Properties, and enable the "Show icon in notification area when

connected" option. Of course, if you configured the Windows taskbar to hide

inactive icons in its system notification area (aka system tray), you'll

need to ensure the network icon is set to "Always show" to prevent it

getting hidden (which would then require clicking on the chevron at the left

end of the tray area to expand and see the hidden icons).
