From what I`ve read they are each a seperate `program` .

Bel202,

If you delete & you try to run a program that relies on the framework it will
error.

Some applications will download the framework before installing or ask you to
download the framework

If the developer includes a bootstrapper then he/she can include the framework
if they require (extra 23 MB download)

ATI Catalyst driver uses Framework 2

Framework 1.0 are for programs written in Visual Studio.NET 2002 (basically
obsolete)
Framework 1.1 are for programs written in Visual Studio.NET 2003
Framework 2.0 are for programs written in Visual Studio.NET 2005
Framework 3.0 is Vista apps or Vista enabled apps
Framework 3.5 are for programs written in Visual Studio.NET 2008 on Beta 2 at
present & is an awesome application
