Need help with factory reset

I bought a used laptop. When I turn the computer on, I see the previous owner's name, and the laptop wants either a fingerprint or PIN to go further. The prev owner has forgotten the PIN. There's a one-key-recovery button under the laptop. Having pressed it I end up with the computer asking me to provide a 'recovery key' to go on. I assume that this key is linked to the prev owner's MS Account, right?Is there any way around the problem?
