my W10 takes ages to search with no result. Indexing and Range searching not helpful.

Hello, I tried to find all my 'JPG files from the 18th of October to now and get nowhere. I read about indexing...So many options, i'm lost. I remember doing so when a popup told me it would help but now can't see it. I also read that W10 had a calendar for range that let you put specific date but no more now - Now only Day, month this year last year....This is actually not correct. With many trials and error I found that selecting 'Mofied' and (for me) picking last year did put something in the search field, then clicking on it popped up a calendar....
