My USB drive will not open and I'm getting a dialogue box saying the disk has to be reformatted. How can I recover my files from this USB?

This is the message I get when asked to reformat -- The file does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted.I was saving a file from one USB to another and that's I received the message that the disk had to be reformatted and the above message appeared.
