My speakers don't appear as a possible output device, nor my Device Manager. How to fix this so that they work?

My speakers functioned for most the time I've owned this laptop, but for some reason a few months ago (don't know the exact date) my speakers no longer show up as a output device, so they don't work. They don't even appear as a possible output device, with the laptop seemingly being unable to detect them in any way. I've also dug through my Device Manager, and they don't appear there either so I'm, unsure as to how I can use it to restore the speakers. It there a way to make my speakers once more appear as a sound output device?
