my power a controler is remaped to the wrong buttons

to clarify x is set to a b is set to nothing and every thing else except the joy sticks is remapped incorrectly. first I tried using Xbox accessories but the app was not connecting to my controller ( I had deemed this to be that the app was outdated and the stuff of today no longer works with it now), then i realized that on my controller there was a reset button i have pressed it and held it for 3 seconds witch might not have been the actual time needed to reset the my controllers controls. so i'm stuck, how do i reset my contoler to it's original state, thank you in advance.
