My PC doesn't recognize devices when plugged into the headphone jack

My PC doesn't recognize audio devices when plugged into the headphone jack. It only recognizes them if they are already plugged in during boot.I have learned that this is a common issue. I want to know if I can fix it. I have tried all the advice that has been given on the web and none of it works. I'd like some help with this.
