My Optical drive does not work and unable to read disks but it is recognized in BIOS

I am totally puzzeled, for about 6 months I can not get my optical drive to work. In File explorer is show that it is there and when I insert a disk, it will still tell me to insert a disk and nothing happens. So i bought a DVD/CD portable disk with a USB connection and it does not work. I suspect that there are some drivers missing. I did un install and re install the drivers several times but no luck, please help me.
