My onboard smart card reading is coming up as an uknown usb device. How do I fix it?

My onboard smart card reader is coming up as an unknown usb device. Because of that I can't install the smart card driver onto the device. It'll only let me select usb drivers and the smart card driver is not there. I tried renaming the inf to trick an install, but nogo. Any help?It's a dell precision 3530. It's a govt laptop
