my new laptop all of a sudden crashes and is slow

I have only had this laptop a few months and it has been running well, loaded photoshop, steam all the apps that can often take time to load in seconds and while i was gaming the other day and i may have accidently left my laptop running for a few hours as well, it was getting much hotter than usual so I decided to close the game and give it a rest but as i went to do exit the game it changed the resolution of the home screen so that their was about an inch of black either side but to fix it proved really difficult as the screen kept freezing so i couldn't press accept and that caused the lapt
