my laptop won’t work using 16 gig ram but maximum is 32??

i tried installing a ddr4 16 gig ram into my hp pavilion laptop, it supports up to 32 gig ram as a maximum, when i tried putting my 16 gig ram in my screen remained black (wouldnt boot up) and when i took it out and put the 4 gig ram back in, it works same as always (its thsoe blue textured laptops hp sells please help me)
