my laptop wont delete photo files without deleting them from my phone

hello, i synced my phone to my laptop in an attempts to transfer a photo from one to the other. Now all my photos from my camera are on my laptop which i do not want however when i try to delete these photos they also delete on my phone. i cant delete them unless my phone is synced and if my phone is synced then i lose my pictures what am i supposed to do? as this is extremely infuriating
