My HP laptop’s password won't work

So, I was trying to get into my brothers hp laptop but when I put in the password it said it was incorrect. I asked my brother about it and he said that the laptops password hadn’t worked in years. I want to try to get into the laptop because it has some very important memory’s in it that I don’t want to lose. Anything helps.
