My HP Laptop is stuck on "preparing to configure"

Please help. My laptop has been stuck on "preparing to configure windows do not switch off" for over 12 HOURS today. I have forced shut down by holding the power button till it goes off. Then I power on again... Still the same thing happens. It did this last night for over 4hours. I tried again today this morning and still no change.I need help in fixing this, please.
