My camera tells me my camera is covered or switched off. How do I switch it on?

Today my camera stopped working. The message is the camera is blocked or switched by a switch or a button on your device. The actual camera says it is covered or switched off. As far as I know I have not touched it. I checked the manage cameras it says it is enabled . It is switched on for all the apps I use, but it can't even recognise me when I try to log in and I need to use my passcode instead.. It won't paste the error message or screenshot here . Instead it says something went wrong. I have rebooted the machine . All to no avail. The computer is less than 6 months old.
