My ASUS VivoBook has a charged battery, but will not switch on via the on/off button on battery, but will when connected to the mains?

My Asus VivoBook is 2 year old. The battery charges, but the laptop will not start unless plugged in to the mains. It works perfectly whilst plugged in, but goes off if unplugged. The battery shows 68% charged.
