OK, here's one for you all.

I had installed two other antivirus programs onto my computer, RoadRunner
and McAfee. I uninstalled these two programs because they really slowed down
my computer.

Now, it seems that even though I uninstalled the software, it seems that the
firewalls for both the RoadRunner and McAfee are still on. And I think it's
because of this that the Windows Update is not downloading the new updates
and it's also interefering with the Windows Defender.

Can anyone help me out with issue?

Thanks!

Finish uninstalling McAfee:
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=4105&partner=McAfee&type=TS&ia=1

If that doesn't fix it see if you can find out what security suite RR
installed.

Did you SHUTDOWN and DISABLE the "run at start-up" options for the products
and THEN reboot before running the uninstalls? Failing to do so may have
resulted in product services not be able to be uninstalled successfully.

The only easy way round this is to re-install the products. Then disable
the run at start-up/boot option, disable them and then reboot. The
un-install again.

to clean the registry take a look at ccleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com/

you can click on registtry applications
and check only "absolute software"
see if they are in there
follow directions- click -analize
if they are there put a check mark next to each one
and clean "clean"
be very careful what you check off in here because you are messing with the
registry

Also you can use this to clean cookies and temp files
with the cleaner button
Just make sure you uncheck Windows Defender in applications
and leave "Advanced" unchecked in Windows
In Windows Explorer- only check Recent Documents
in System- only check Clipboard.
Redue the "analyze" once you have done this then put a check on in System-
temporary files

Here is my advice: hands off regarding McAfee (or was it McAffe) products.
