Mouse cursor suddenly turned completely black, restarting didn't help

One day when I was using my Surface Pro 11, I saw that my mouse pointer had suddenly gone completely black, becoming hard to see against dark display elements. I was using an app in fullscreen which later crashed, which was when the pointer went black for whatever reason. Restarting the computer didn't solve the problem.I also checked the pointer customization menu and the preview icons there were normal.
