Minecraft lost worlds

My 8 year old son logged out of his Microsoft account in Minecraft settings and was not able to log back in (he plays on an iPad). My husband then tried to fix the situation by deleting Minecraft and reinstalling it. This has regained all of my son’s marketplace purchases but has wiped ALL of the 200 odd worlds he had saved. I guess they weren’t saved in the cloud because they took up so much space and we hadn’t paid for the extra storage. Is it really hopeless? Are his worlds lost and gone forever? He is completely distraught, so any advice is much appreciated!
