Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter kills my internet

I just bought a microsoft wireless display adapter to use with my Windows 10 PC, but every time I connect to it my computer drops internet connection and I can't open websites/play games/etc until I disconnect from the wireless display. I have the most up to date firmware for the adapter, my wireless card drivers are up to date, as is my PC. I have tried restarting both devices, both separately and simultaneously. Nothing helps. This seems to be a somewhat known issue, but I have found no solution, nor reason given for why this happens.
