microsoft security essentials

I still have Windows 7 installed along with Microsoft Security Essentials. Now it appears it will no longer do a scheduled scan and I'm getting the 'potentially unprotected' notice. Real time is on and virus definitions are up to date.

Is this a problem and can it be fixed? Thank you.
