Manual update of MSE virus definitions freezes on 'searching' every time I try it:
When I load MSE to do a manual scan each day, I find the virus definitions well out of date. So I do a manual update.
This used to work fairly consistently, giving me a valid set of definitions.
However over the last week or so, every time I try this, the update process freezes at the 'searching' stage. The only remedy I can find that works is to cancel the update, shut down all running programs, completely reboot the computer, and try a manual update again.
This often fails in the same way, and it frequently takes up to 3 or 4 repeats of the cancel/reboot/try again procedure to get a good update. Why is this happening?
Only info I can find on Microsoft 'Help' is so long-winded and obscure as to be impractical to follow. All I want is a consistently working antivirus and antimalware product - not to have to do a postgraduate level research project into the failings of Microsoft offerings.
Surely not too much to ask from a commercial organisation purporting to be a computer software supplier?
Any answers to this problem please?
Grateful thanks for any help forthcoming!
