Microsoft safety scanner - 20 infected files

I downloaded microsoft safety scanner a couple of days ago ran it, whilst scanning it detected 6 infected files but nothing in the end ( i understand why this happens sometimes the SHA is similar to that of a malware of there is remnants and things like that).However today after clicking a link on one of the questions on microsoft community ( the website didn't work) i chose to scan again and during the scan it found 20 infected files ( it is currently still running), it is just a massive jump and i dont understand how that could of happened if there isn't anything infected because i have used
