Microsoft doesn't sign me in

I am not sure what is going on. I have Microsoft 365 personal. If I go to Microsoft it will let me sign in to 365. When I open Word, it asks me to sign in again. When I go to sign in on that screen, with the same email address I get the "We couldn't find a work or school account with that email address." Yet that address is what I used to sign into Microsoft and check that my account is active. Help?Lynn
