Microsoft Account pop up message

Good morning.Over the last couple or more days when I turn my laptop on a message appears which asks me to sign in/verify my Microsoft account.Have changed password via this pop up and the next time it comes up promptly tells me that password is incorrect,Have run a full virus scan which removed one threat and also Malwarebytes with nothing found.Called Microsoft who verified my account via e mail while I was on the phone to them Was told message wont appear again.Guess what he was wrong.Did nothing with it this time just deleted it.Presume this could be a scam if so how do I stop it from appearing?
