Microphone not working

I have a Thinkpad W541 with a built-in microphone. Windows settings register that it's picking up sound, but apps such as Chrome and Discord (which have permission to use it, and have used it in the past) can no longer detect sound. I recently updated both Windows and the BIOS of the laptop, so I don't know what broke it. Help?
