Mic picked up by windows but no apps

Hi,


I'm on a windows laptop and my (USB) mic isn't being picked up by any apps (discord, voice recorder, video, etc.). I can hear output audio (discord vc, browser, spotify) and windows settings pick up the audio, but if i try to listen to myself there is no output.





(these were all taken while speaking at a very similar volume)


it is not a mic specific problem either, as i have tried with 4 different mics, none working, and have tested those mics on another laptop (where they do work)


I have done all the basics (reset laptop, changing settings within apps, turning all microphone perms on and off again, clean reinstall of some apps)


I haven't been able to find any issue like this so i was wondering if anyone had any clue?
