Manually installing updates without the aid of wusu

I have 2 ½ questions I’m hoping can be answered. Event Viewer logs reveals that updates are and have been occurring daily. However Settings/Update history shows there being only two since last October; KB5041585 on 10/17/24, and KB5041585 again on 01/11/25. Neither have completed, and the 01/11 attempt has caused seemingly irreparable damage. One of the casualties, was Windows Update. Neither my own attempts, nor any suggested fixes have been successful. I’ve since downloaded the update files post 08/13/2025 through MS update catalog (both .cab and msu), hoping this will get my computer runnin
