I have a Windows 10 (Pro) with a wired printer connected to it. On the same WiFi home network, on the table beside it, is a Windows 7 64-bit system. Both are up to date, meaning they have all the latest updates, and the Windows 10 system no longer has the Homegroup feature. Both are in the same Workgroup.
Try as I have, I have failed to get the Windows 7 system to reliable access either the printer or shared folders. On the very few occasions where it looked like it was working, it all failed again after rebooting. I have searched the Internet and tried all the suggested changes that I have found, but to no avail.
It seems to be more fundamental than simply permissions on those resources: as I said, the problem affects both the printer and shared folders. When the two machines are booted up, The Windows 7 system shows both machine names in the 'Network' section of Windows Explorer, but when I try to open the Windows 10 machine from there then I get "Error code: 0x80070035. The network path was not found". The Windows 10 machine does not show the Windows 7 machine in its 'Network' section, but if I try to connect to it (using \\machine in the Run box) then I get the same error code.
I have tried turning off the firewall on both machines but with no effect. The Windows 7 system uses MSE and the Windows 10 system uses Windows Defender.
