Laptop takes very long to wake from sleep and login menu takes a long time to show

When close the laptop lid and the laptop goes to sleep, the laptop takes a long time to wake from sleep and when it does the login menu takes a long time to show often I have to keep clicking but the login menu is just blue and the menu to enter password does not show for a long time.Is there any way to fix this? This is very annoying because it adds a lot of time to moving the laptop.
