Laptop overheating and possibly crashing when closed

Whenever i shut the lid my ASUS vivabook OLED 15' laptop, the next morning when i go to open it, it's significantly hotter than it should be and when opened the laptop stays on a black screen and doesn't respond to anything that might wake it up (clicking power button, typing, moving mouse around etc.). I have to manually hold down the power button for a full shutdown and then restart it. does anyone know what the cause of this problem is and what possible solutions there are to fix it?
