Laptop home screen turned black, but taskbar and icons still working fine

I was working on my laptop today with no issues. When I was done, I shut it down. I realized i forgot to do something so I started it up again, but when it booted up, the home screen background was all black, but all icons on the home screen and taskbar were visible and working fine. I tried restarting the laptop again to see if my original background would return, but it was still black when I booted it back up again.
