Laptop Freezes during Clean Vista Install

I am trying to do a clean install of windows vista but it hangs up


I press any key to load from the CD

The progress bar runs for the CD and then I see the Microsoft Windows progress bar and then the system freezes at black screen


So I tried to go into safe mode after loading the CD next time ....it did go into safe mode from the CD and I was able to install windows in safe mode, but when it tries to restart it hangs again...........


It is a Toshiba Satellite L305 S5944 machine


Any thoughts or ideas what is happening ?
