laptop built-in camera doesn't appear in device manager

My Acer Vero laptop has a "high definition camera", which doesn't show up in Device Manager, Settings, or any other app that needs access to it. They all say "no camera detected", or similar.How can I persuade Windows to find and use the camera?Thanks in advance,Steve
