Hallo NG!

When trying to download kb977165 I always receive error code 0x8007010B

This happened already 7 times.

All other downloads of windows updates work without problems.

What could be wrong? Help via the Update help-page doesn't help.

Thanks for any advice.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your

subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?

What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the

computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought

it)?

I'm using Avira antvir on a daily basis and its guard is activated.

MS MRT is downloaded and executed (no alarms).

No third party firewall. Use broadband router. Windows firewall off.

Okay, wouldn't have expected it to be the culprit anyway ;)

Now, have you tried downloading and installing KB977165 manually already?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e2b348f5-ec8d-4782-bb03-5de550adea77

Assuming you're German and at least using a german languaged Windows XP

version (*not* a MUI version!), the following links directly to KB977165 for

your system:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...f5-ec8d-4782-bb03-5de550adea77&DisplayLang=de

In case you'll receive any error message while trying to install the update

by executing the EXE file *after* you've saved that one on a location of your

system, please post the error code.

There have been some reports, that after installing Windows Installer 4.5

(which is an optional update for Windows XP not beeing offered via Windows

Update), some of these problems vanished as sudden, as they occured. You can

find Windows Installer 4.5 in DownloadCenter, link below:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4&DisplayLang=de

In case you're going to give Windows Installer 4.5 a try, please download

and install KB958655 too:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...57-03cc-42e5-823e-60c9efe74aac&DisplayLang=en

Yes I did and received error: "Setup cannot update your Windows XP files

because the language installed on your computer system is different from

the update language." No other error code.

I changed the language before download to german, I am a german, and

system language is german.

Als ich mit dieser NG angefangen habe, hat es wahrscheinlich die deutsche

Gruppe noch nicht gegeben oder ich habe es nicht gesehen.

Just to get this straight: The version of KB977165 for *german* languaged

Windows XP has thrown the error message after executing it?

If true, you're most likely running a MUI version of Windows XP (not

uncommon especially for preinstalled Windows XP Media Center Edition

versions). Please try downloading and installing the *English* version of

KB977165 for Windows XP then.

If you get another error message then, please provide the details.

Och, microsoft.public.de.german.windowsxp.sonstiges existiert seit Sommer

2001 ;)

No MUI, no Media Center, just WiXP/SP3 with all auto updates.

I did that first, just by accident.

Same "language" error. So I dl'd "german". See above.

would leed to download "WindowsXP-KB977165-x86-DEU.exe". Did you

download and try to execute that exe?

I think I exactly did that. I did it again now from the link as given

above. This time a install process started and finished without errors.

New start of pc and all seems to be alright now. Thanks for help.

No. In case installing KB977165 crashes your system (you receive a

BlueScreen and/or Windows XP keeps rebooting), your system ist most

likely running malware. See
