I've been trying to install the KB935807 update using Windows Update on
Windows Vista Ultimate. Once the update is installed, I am asked to restart
the computer - which I do. It tries to install the update immediately after
the Vista logo flashes off and then after sometime reboots itself without
giving me a chance to log in. The next startup involves trying to install the
updates again as the first time but I get to log in.

Windows Update reports that the update failed and I try to troubleshoot it.
Error 80070002 is displayed. This happens over and over and I'm unable to
sleep my computer now. The power button is constantly in the install updates
and shut down state even if I don't bother installing this error prone update.

Solution tried (note: this is the only update left to install):
1. Shut down the windows update service
2. deleted the contents of Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Datastore
3. Restarted service
4. Installed update

This doesn't help and I'm unable to find any thing of use in the knowledge
base atricles.

Hi

Does any of this help

replies from M/Soft a few days ago

if these fail

next time it tries to do it and provided you have verified installation
as per below

then place it in the hidden updates file
then it will stop

Clear out your Temp Internet files and manually download the update
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?pocId=&freetext=KB935807&DisplayLang=en

You can check which updates are installed on your computer by -
Start button || Control Panel || Programs
Under Programs and Features - click View installed updates.

The update may still be cached in the softwaredistribution\download folder
from the
previous attempt at auto updating.
Find it and remove it.
