Okay. Here is the most important of the messages. Completing Step 3
corrected the issue. The dotted lines were the screeshots I sent. I don't
know how to get them on this page.

See Attach. Does it make any difference .NET Framework 1.1(two listings)
are still listed in Add/Remove Programs? Should I proceed with instructions
in id=320112 and then Step 3?
I'm trying to do this by giving the most information that I can and
proceeding with caution! I am not a computer novice but I am not a
professional as well.

am a very patient 'old' man!
Completed the 3rd step. While downloading Version 1 Service Pack 1
(KB928366) the Attach: window appeared. Tried 'Retry' several times to no
avail and then 'Ignore'. Completed download. Then restarted computer.
Shield is no longer in the tray! .NET Framework 1.1 [1.1.43227] again
listed in Windows Installer Clean Up list.
Question about 2 of Step 3:
"After downloading the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 setup file onto your
computer, please double-click the .NET Framework files to manually install
them one by one."
Is this step necessary? Now?
If necessary, where do I find the Redistributable Package; Service Package
1 and Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 files to manually install them?
Please note ...... Microsoft Update shows no updates for my computer.
Reason to think download was a success. (?)
Extra help if it is al right. How do I delete the Microsoft Update, Review
your Update History File? Where do I find it?

Dick, thanks of your screenshot. I can fully understand the inconvenience
the issue caused. Also, thanks for your inquiry, the case status is open. On
my side, I will continue to do my best to help you.
First, I would like to explain that Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp
utility will not remove Add or Remove registry information, so we can see
..NET Framework in it. Please feel free about it, it is normal. Please
continue to do the step 3 to completed the installation of .NET Framework 1.1
components and test the issue on the Windows Update website. Your
understanding is highly appreciated.
If any other steps have been performed, I recommend perform all the 3 steps
again.

downloading July 11 apparently with the updates applied. Hope I have
presented this well.
