Every few months or so I update the windows software on my reserve W7 HP Elite 8000 SFF pc.
Recent attempts to do this have been unsuccessful with the pc searching endlessly for updates to no avail.
In my case the recommended installation of the latest WUA (KB3102810 refers) has not completely resolved this problem.
Some available updates have not been downloaded despite repeated attempts and the endless search for updates recurs .
It may help to diagnose the problem if I list the steps taken prior to the installation of KB3102810.
I restored the hard disk to its initial state circa. 2009 from the recovery partition with the pc offline.
I installed W7 SP1 offline using a USB memory stick (file downloaded from MS website to a different pc and copied to USB memory stick).
I then installed KB3102810 offline using USB memory stick (file downloaded from MS website to a different pc and copied to USB memory stick).
I then went online, having connected the pc directly to my ADSL router using an Ethernet cable, and installed MS Essentials.
I then checked for updates and after about 15 minutes approx. 210 updates were found.
The download was fine but the installation hung at about 175 updates in and I could not halt the process other than by a pc restart.
I then determined from the Update History that the installation of KB2538243 had failed and presumably caused the pc to hang at that point.
Subsequent attempts to complete the installation of the odd failures that had occurred up to the point where the pc had hung and those that should have been installed after that point all resulted in an endless search to no avail.
So I decided to do another factory reset and repeat the process outlined above.
Once again the pc hung at the point where the KB2538243 installation failed and an impasse was reached thereafter.
So, another factory reset was undertaken and the above process repeated but with KB2538243 hidden before update downloading and installation commenced.
This time apart from the odd couple of failures the installation process completed but as before these failures have not been picked up by the update process either automatically or by a manual check. Also despite successfully installing Silverlight none of the associated updates have been found or installed.
I have used the Windows Update Diagnostic Tool many times and on each occasion the detailed information option confirms that each problem detected has been resolved.
I have run sfc /scannow several times and on each occasion no violations have been found.
This is the first time I have ever needed to post on a forum such as this to find a solution to a pc problem.
Please help, I'm at my wits end with this issue!!
